Custom Cat Portrait: A Gift Everyone Loves
Did you know cats are among the most popular pets in the world? In France, nearly 30% of people have a cat at home!
No wonder custom cat portraits are so popular! They’re the perfect gift for anyone who adores their furry friend—guaranteed to surprise and touch their heart.
What Is a Custom Cat Portrait?
Our cats have a special place in our hearts and homes (especially on our couches!). We love them for their independence, their purrs, and their unique personalities. That’s why a custom cat portrait belongs right next to your family photos.
This kind of art is hand-drawn by a professional illustrator, using a photo of your cat and the style you choose (more on styles below!).
The artist uses all the details you provide, including your cat’s quirks and personality, to make the portrait truly special. The result is a one-of-a-kind piece that captures your cat’s spirit.
Once finished and approved, the portrait is sent to its happy owner—often as a birthday, Valentine’s, or holiday gift, or just because!
Cats in Art History
Sacred, mysterious, or just plain adorable—cats have always fascinated people!
Since ancient Egypt, cats have had a special place in art. Sometimes they’re the main subject, sometimes just a detail, but they’re always inspiring.
Over 2,000 years ago, Egyptians were the first to domesticate cats. They were seen as divine and protective, and appeared in lots of ancient art.
By the end of the 1st century AD, Roman soldiers loved cats and took them everywhere. Sometimes, cats even appeared on their banners!
In the Middle Ages, cats were seen as evil and scary, and medieval paintings made them look spooky.
During the Renaissance, Leonardo da Vinci said, “Even the smallest feline is a masterpiece.” He drew many studies of cats. By the late 17th century, cats were finally seen in a better light.
In the 18th century, cats became a favorite subject for painters. Gottfried Mind was even called “the Raphael of cats” for his many cat paintings and sculptures. After the French Revolution, cats became a symbol of freedom.
In the 19th century, cats were beloved by writers and appeared in countless paintings by famous artists like Courbet, Renoir, Manet, and more. Cats became a symbol of happy, cozy homes.
In the 20th century, artists like Bonnard, Chagall, Léger, and Warhol all found inspiration in cats.
Today, cats are social media stars and bring joy to their owners. Many people order custom cat portraits to proudly display at home.
Realistic Custom Cat Portraits
Made from one or more photos of your cat, these portraits are as realistic as possible.
But even realistic portraits can include fun details or accessories to show off your cat’s personality—like their favorite toy, cat tree, or cozy pillow.
You can add special touches, like a halo or wings for a cat who’s passed away, or funny outfits and accessories. The artist can also create a special mood with soft, romantic colors or bold, modern ones. Black and white is also a classic, giving the portrait a timeless, elegant feel.
WPAP Style Cat Portraits
On the opposite end of the spectrum, you can choose a WPAP (Wedha’s Pop Art Portraits) style for your custom cat portrait.
This modern art style, created by Wedha Abdul Rasyid, uses bright, geometric shapes to make colorful, mosaic-like portraits. It’s perfect for showing off your cat’s playful, electric personality.
WPAP is trendy and looks great in any home, whether your style is modern or traditional.
Cartoon Style Cat Portraits
Every cat owner knows their pet can be both lazy and wild! Cats are famous for their silly antics, and they’ve conquered social media with their funny faces and playful moods.
A cartoon-style portrait is perfect for showing your cat’s playful side. Your cat can be drawn in the style of your favorite comic or cartoon.
The artist uses your photo but draws your cat with simple shapes, big expressions, and lots of personality. The result is a portrait full of emotion and fun.
Manga Style Cat Portraits
Manga is super popular worldwide. The unique style of Japanese comics is a big reason why.
A custom cat portrait in manga style is another way to “cartoonize” your cat, with big eyes, a tiny nose, and spiky, geometric fur. This style gives your cat a wide range of cute, dramatic expressions.
